A specific type of identity theft called “phishing” has become prevalent in recent years. In the field of computer security, phishing is the criminally fraudulent process of attempting to acquire sensitive information such as user-names, passwords, credit card and account details by impersonating a trusted entity via electronic communication.
Phishing is typically carried out by e-mail or instant messaging and often directs users to enter details at a fake website whose look and feel are almost identical to the legitimate one. The perpetrators typically pose as trustworthy entities such as financial institutions, credit card companies, online merchants, utility companies, internet service providers, government agencies and prospective employers.
Stock Yards Bank will not ask for sensitive or personal identifying information by unsolicited phone calls, e-mails or text messages.
